Volume 2: Teaching Reading Comprehension in a Digital World

Evidence-Based Contributions Using PIRLS and Digital Texts

As part of this second volume of Research for Educators, based on data from IEA’s PIRLS (Progress in International Reading and Literacy Study) and ePIRLS, a unique set of resources are available open access for teachers:

  • Theory: The first section reviews research on digital reading, focusing on the differences between print and on-screen reading and the skills required for effective digital reading.
  • Practice: This volume highlights practices from schools in Ireland, Italy, and Singapore, based on their participation in PIRLS.
  • Digest: The accompanying Teacher Snippet highlights the six didactic principles from the book using the ePIRLS digital passage, Oceans to provide tangible classroom examples teachers can use in a digestible format.
